Skills Training

Skills Training

$60.00

Description

Skills for a brighter future. Whether it’s bee-keeping, sewing or growing, training gives people a chance to build a better future. This gift contributes to projects which provide people with training in a useful vocational skill that can help them develop a small business, earn an income and provide for their family.

How your gift helps

In Yangon, Myanmar, Aye Thu Zar is learning new skills that will help her earn a living and secure a better future. A widow, Thu Zar is a member of a Self-Help Group that is part of a project run by TEAR’s partner Precious Stones. Her fellow members chose her from the group to receive a scholarship to undergo training in sewing through the project’s Community Learning Centre.

Thu Zar’s group has made good use of their sewing skills, working together to fill an order for pillowcases from a local trader. The trader provides all the materials and the women receive a payment per pillowcase. In one day, each woman can make about 100 pillowcases. The group is also making soap, which they sell at the market for a small profit. They also save money regularly and take small loans from the group that they can use to buy equipment, like sewing machines. The members say that being part of this group has brought improvements to the health and income of themselves and their families.
